Secklaw is a niche office which is exclusively focused on port based activities, logistics and trade. Its core areas of expertise are the carriage of goods by road, sea, inland shipping and shipbuilding contracts. In addition, there is an in-depth knowledge of non-life insurance and of sale contracts. This makes Secklaw a highly qualified and reliable partner.

Who is Secklaw?

Secklaw was founded in 2021 by Dr. Papis Seck. Papis has been helping his clients in the fields of shipping, transport, sale of goods, insurance and shipbuilding since 2002. First as a transport law specialist at a large insurance company in the Netherlands and, after he obtained his PhD degree in 2011, as an attorney-at-law in Rotterdam. Papis has nearly two decades of experience in handling a variety of complex legal cases within his areas of expertise.

Approach

Papis has a practical and a solution-based approach when managing legal disputes. His objective in every case is to provide the best and most cost-effective solution for his client. His work shows an in-depth knowledge of the law and practice, a great deal of creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Papis is absolutely focussed on protecting the interests of his clients in every case.

Background

Papis is a French native speaker and he is fluent in both Dutch and English. Papis has completed several academic studies in Senegal (UCAD), France (Aix-Marseille III) and the Netherlands (UvA). In 2011, Papis obtained a PhD degree on Voyage Charter Parties and Bill of Lading Contracts at Erasmus University Law School in Rotterdam. In 2019-2020, Papis obtained a postgraduate specialisation degree in insurance law, at the University of Amsterdam, and is therefore entitled to use the protected title “Certified Insurance Lawyer”.

Since 2012, Papis publishes yearly the Revue de jurisprudence maritime néerlandaise in the leading French law journal Le Droit Maritime Français.

Registration with Dutch Bar Association (NOvA)

Papis is registered with The Dutch Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten) in the following areas of expertise:

On the basis of this registration, Papis must follow regular courses every year, with the purpose of updating and maintaining his expertise, for each registered practice area in accordance with the standards of the Dutch Bar Association.
